Explain the AI’s capabilities
The variability in AI-based products creates new challenges for users. Since different AI products use different models “under the hood”, without explanation, each product’s capabilities can be highly unpredictable and unclear.

Set the right expectations from the start
Make it clear what users can expect from using your product and what they shouldn’t expect so they’re not disappointed after trying it out.
Make it clear what is AI-based, what led to that decision and the sources used in those steps that led to the decision. This way a user can better understand what is going on and what was behind the output.

Guide users to new AI-driven features with familiar touchpoints they already know
Use familiar concepts from your product’s domain to help users set expectations and feel comfortable with the feature instead of highlighting its newness or magic.
Unless suitable to the domain of your product, stay away from overly technical language.

Notify users about changes
Inform the user when the AI system adds or updates its capabilities and how this may affect them.
