Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded)

Provide Alternatives for Prerecorded Audio-Only and Video-Only Content

Ensure that prerecorded audio-only and prerecorded video-only content has a text alternative so that people who cannot hear or see the content can still understand it.

Acceptance Criteria

Prerecorded Audio-Only: Provide a text alternative that conveys the same information as the audio.

Prerecorded Video-Only: Provide either a text alternative or an audio description that conveys the same information as the video.

Examples

Audio-Only: A podcast should have a transcript available.

Video-Only: A video without sound should have a text description or an audio description of the visual content.

Exceptions

Media Alternatives: If the audio or video is a media alternative for text and is clearly labeled as such, no additional alternative is required.

Tips

• For audio content, include key details, dialogue, and relevant sounds in the transcript.

• For video content, include descriptions of visual elements and actions in the text alternative or audio description.

• Ensure that alternatives are easy to find and access.

How to test?

1. Content Review: Check that prerecorded audio and video content has the required text or audio descriptions.

2. Accessibility Check: Verify that the text alternatives accurately convey the same information as the audio or video.

3. User Feedback: Test with users who rely on alternatives to ensure they can fully understand the content.
